I like the wide open space and seclusion the Mojave Road has to offer. I like the challenge of rock crawling that JV and the Sierra trails has to offer. I like bombing down washes in AB and Ocotillo, playing around on the dunes, etc. |

It's my hands-down favorite, no matter the season. It seems once I get above 5,000' or 6,000', the hassles and strain of everyday life just melt away.
Then we get stuck in the snow and they all come back. But that's another story.

Of course, the bias is towards Big Bear starting about now, and will shift back to Calico/Barstow in October or so...

However, because of the distances involved, I do much more wheeling in tyhe Big Bear area, as well as even more locally (to me), i.e., Cajon Pass, Cleghorn, Lytle Creek area, etc.
But...if I had my "druthers", Death Valley, then Mojave Preserve, then Anza-Borrego.

Our western United States are truly wonderful! The history that has been made here in all the variety of mining, enterprise, and the expansion of infrastructure for our major cities has been Herculean and spectacular.
Camping in the desert takes one back to earlier times. Even if you have a nice camper or trailer, all the creature comforts, the best toys, or just do it in a tent ....... its all great no matter where you go! I want to see it all! |
